The SSC notification is internally inconsistent about signature dimensions — the main notice and Annexure-IV give different figures. The 10-20 KB JPEG limit is stated consistently. Follow the dimensions the live upload screen shows you, and use this tool to hit the file size band. Separately: SSC now captures the candidate photograph live inside the application portal, so a gallery photo cannot be uploaded for the photograph.

What causes rejections

  • Compressing below 10 KB. The portal enforces a floor as well as a ceiling; this tool stops at the floor.
  • Signing in block capitals, which SSC rejects outright.
  • A signature that occupies only a small part of the box. SSC guidance asks for roughly 80% of the box.
  • Photographing the signature on lined or off-white paper under yellow light.

  • That the file is a real image, not a renamed HEIC or PDF

Judged by a person or the portal

  • Whether your expression is neutral
  • Whether hair or a head covering obscures your face
  • Whether the photo is recent enough
  • Head height, which the crop guide targets but does not measure
  • Whether the photograph is genuinely of you

Passing every automated check here does not mean your application will be accepted. It means the file will not fail for a technical reason.

How your image is handled

Your file is read into this page, decoded, drawn onto a canvas at the target size and re-encoded. Every step runs on your device. No network request carries the image, so nothing is stored on our side and nothing can be recovered from us later.

Re-encoding through a canvas also converts the file to the sRGB colour space and strips the original EXIF metadata, including any location tag your camera wrote into it.

What this does and does not protect against

Why does my SSC signature upload keep failing?
Almost always the file size. The accepted band is 10-20 KB in JPEG. A file at 8 KB fails for the same reason as one at 25 KB. This tool targets the middle of the band instead of just staying under the ceiling.
What ink should I use?
Black or dark blue ink on plain unlined white paper. Black scans and compresses more cleanly and stays legible at 20 KB.
Can I upload a saved photo for the SSC photograph?
No. SSC now captures the candidate photograph live through the application portal. This tool handles the signature, which is still a file upload.
