What causes rejections

Using a pure white background. The UK asks for light grey or cream, unlike the US, Canada and India. This is the single most-missed UK rule, and a photo that passes a US check can fail here for exactly that reason.
Falling below the 50 KB floor. Heavy compression to "make the upload faster" pushes a clean, evenly-lit photo under the minimum.
Confusing the digital route with the printed one. The 45 x 35 mm figure is for paper applications and has nothing to do with the pixel check on the upload.
Submitting a selfie. GOV.UK rejects arm’s-length photos, and the automated check often catches the distortion.

How your image is handled

Your file is read into this page, decoded, drawn onto a canvas at the target size and re-encoded. Every step runs on your device. No network request carries the image, so nothing is stored on our side and nothing can be recovered from us later.

Re-encoding through a canvas also converts the file to the sRGB colour space and strips the original EXIF metadata, including any location tag your camera wrote into it.
